Big Changes on The Way

My parents house has been on the market for 3 years now. And it finally sold as we finalized the sale today. I grew up in this house my entire life. And now we will be moving to spruce grove, into a house with no front yard, or backyard. I’ve never been one for living in town because of the lack of privacy. So within the next month we will be moved out and moved into our new house we recently purchased after this sale finished. May and June are going to be a little crazy for me. I’ve never moved before, except for into a dorm room in university.  I will be close to everything. The Kwoon is only 8 minutes from the new house and my gym is even closer now. And since I will be in town I can ride my bike around town and add to my numbers. I am also looking at purchasing an electric scooter to make it easier to commute around town after work and keep the kilometers down on my car. I’ll also be riding distance from my office which will make it easier for me to meet with couple and  f...

Sil Lum

The Sil Lum seminar has me being more aware about my imbalances. Especially in my legs as I can’t do the exercises at equal difficulty when isolating one or the other. It’s not a huge imbalance, my estimate is a 3-5% difference from my right leg to my left leg (dominant leg). Flexibility is the same however. But I can definitely tell me left leg is doing more work during the squats and leg exercises when both legs are sure together. This could sound normal since I am left side dominant and it might not be a strength issue, but a mind muscle activation issue and can be remedied with muscle isolation exercises.  Numbers P/U: 9967 S/U: 8635 Forms: 75/79 Sparring: 8 AoK: 189 Mileage: 243.4km

Numbers Update

I proceeded to get a one day flu on Wednesday which left me weak for the rest of the week. I did my best to squeeze in a few numbers after Wednesday. I am looking forward to sparring at open training! And yes I have all my gear packed and ready to go in my car as you read this. So those of you in class can’t make fun of me anymore lol.  Numbers  P/U: 8755 S/U: 7356 Forms: 59/61 Sparring:  AoK: 168 Mileage: 223.5km

Spring Break

I got a lot of things done over this break, worked on my forms a lot, and mindfully as well. I used my extra time this break extremely well. It felt really good when I could just be productive and focused without having to worry about time. I also used this break fo recover from some muscle discomforts, although my challenge on Saturday may have been a bit ambitious as soon as I recovered earlier in the week. I would like to do more challenge days with the team, not the same challenge, but similar. Also, what are some good stretches for the lower back? I’ve got some discomfort growing and I’d like to try some new stretches to try and control my discomfort.  Numbers  P/U: 8495 S/U: 7106 Forms: 59/61 Sparring:  AoK: 152 Mileage: 212.58km

Spear is Fun

As I practice with my spear it becomes more apparent just how much room is needed for a weapon of this length. If you were to look at my ceiling in the basement you’d find a few marks from my spear. Which is why I prefer to practice in the kitchen and dinning room since I’m lucky enough to have 9ft walls there. It’s definitely been a shift since I like to use blunt weapons over weapons with defined edges and tips. And I can definitely see and feel it in my form that I still want to strike as if I have a staff in my hands sometimes. That is what makes this fun for me. I need to shift my intent from what I’m used to with my own weapons, which will make my a more dynamic martial artist. Numbers  P/U: 6842 S/U: 5906 Forms: 48/45 Sparring:  AoK: 129 Mileage: 162.24km

I think I’m back again

I’m pretty confident I’ve gotten myself back into my regiment. Last and this week I was able to go to the gym 5-6 days a week consistently, I ate all my protein for each day and got to sleep on a regular basis and was able to practice my kung fu outside of class everyday. Just got to stay consistent for as long as possible now until something comes along that I need to overcome.  Numbers  P/U: 5673 S/U: 4684 Forms: 39/36 Sparring:  AoK: 108 Mileage: 147.38km

On the Up and Up

This week has been about implementing my regimen back into my schedule when it comes to everything. My diet, gym routine, work schedule, and social life. I felt really disconnected from my surroundings this week but I’d say it was for the better because of what I was working on last week with bringing myself back around. I’m definitely on an upward trajectory. Now I just need to get back into my habits without any distractions steering me away.
